The current Caring Well Strategy runs from 2022 to 2027 and was co-produced with unpaid carers. These eight priority themes continue to guide our work. As part of this refresh, we are reviewing whether these priorities remain the right ones and whether anything additional needs to be considered.

We are undertaking a mini refresh rather than developing an entirely new strategy, and share how carers, partners and stakeholders can help shape our priorities moving forward. The refresh gives us an opportunity to check that our existing priorities still reflect the needs of unpaid carers in Southend and to identify any new challenges or opportunities that have emerged since the strategy was launched.

A refresh allows us to gather evidence now and ensure future strategic planning reflects the needs of unpaid carers once the future organisational landscape becomes clearer.

Over the coming months we will focus on engagement and collecting responses. We will analyse the findings, identify key themes and consider whether changes are needed to our priorities or action plan. This evidence will also help inform future strategy development following Local Government Reorganisation.

Please help us share the survey and encourage carers to get involved. The success of this refresh depends on hearing from a diverse range of carers and ensuring their voices remain at the centre of future planning.

Consultation closes 5pm 28 September 2026
