Introduction
The council is in the process of producing a new five-year economic growth strategy for Southend-on-Sea. We are consulting with stakeholders and partners to help develop the focus of the strategy.
The ambition of the strategy is to boost Southend-on-Sea’s local economy in a way that benefits everyone – promoting economic growth, ensuring environmental sustainability and securing inward investment into the city, by attracting new businesses and improving business conditions. It will also seek to enhance skills and job opportunities for local residents and help local businesses with their recruitment needs.
In the strategy we have identified three headline priorities to focus on. These are as follows:
promote Southend-on-Sea as the home of micro, small and medium sized enterprises, community interest companies and not for profit organisations
support new and existing businesses and organisations to achieve sustainable economic growth, particularly those in our key growth and strategic sectors
help employees, jobseekers and students in Southend-on-Sea to succeed in their careers and get decent jobs.
We believe these priorities reflect our strengths as a city and will enable us to achieve our ambition for economic growth outlined above. Underpinning these priorities are the following cross-cutting themes:
