Funding to deliver free holiday activities and healthy food during Easter 2022 school holidays.

The Department for Education set up a Holiday Activity & Food Fund (#HAF2022) to provide Holiday Activity clubs to young people who are eligible for benefits based free school meals. We now have secured funding for the next 3 years.

Group of teenagers

The Department for Education has set some minimum delivery requirements as follows:

4 days per week and 4 hours per day (6 weeks of the year)

This will be delivered at the following time

1 week of the Easter holiday

4 weeks of the Summer holiday

1 week of the Christmas holiday

Each holiday activity club needs to provide as a minimum:

  1. Healthy food
  2. Physical activity
  3. Enriching activity
  4. Nutritional education
  5. Inclusive and accessible to all

Over the last year we found by working with a range of partners we were able to develop a model of delivery that ensured support and provision for over 1000 eligible young people. We are now in a position to extend and enhance the offer to even more young people.

We are now keen to get a better idea about what holiday provision is already taking place, what partners are interested in working with us and what role you feel you could play. This could be managing all aspects of an activity club, or multiple activity clubs, or by providing specific activities across a number of clubs, or by supporting the food delivery and education element.

Below is the link to complete your expression of interest for Easter 2022. We need some information about you and/or your provision as well as a rough outline of what you plan to offer and the cost per student per 4hr day/session.

The closing date is Sunday 20 February and successful applicants will be contacted by the Wednesday 23 February. Please provide as much information as you can.

If you have any question, would like help to complete the form or would like a different version of the form e.g. paper please email haf@southend.gov.uk
