Who are we consulting and why?

The Southend Sexual Health Service provides confidential open access services including testing, prevention and management of sexually transmitted infections (STI’s), contraception choices, pregnancy testing, sexual health promotion and HIV awareness and training.

We want to hear the views, experiences and ideas of people who live and work in Southend, about how we can shape the sexual health service and support people in maintaining their sexual health and wellbeing.

We have developed a short survey targeted at anyone aged 16 and over living and working in Southend. If this is you, please take 10-15 minutes to complete this survey. All answers are completely anonymous, and we will never identify you personally unless you want us to.

The survey will be available from Monday 19th December 2022 to Friday 3rd February 2023. An update will be posted on this page once the findings have been analysed.

What is a JSNA (Joint Strategic Needs Assessment)?

This survey is part of the Council's Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) which looks at the current and future health and wellbeing care needs of local people. The JSNA explores the wider social factors that impact a person’s health and wellbeing, to shape how services and support are provided in Southend-on-Sea.

Why Sexual and Reproductive Health?

Sexual and reproductive health are an important part of maintaining our physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing. All of us may need support with sexual and reproductive health at some stage in our lives, whether that be for contraception, menopause, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, advice and guidance around safe sex, pregnancy, or support with HIV.

Good sexual and reproductive health involves people being able to have a safe and satisfying sex life, being able to reproduce and start a family, and have the freedom to choose if, when and how often to do so.

We want to make sure people in Southend have good experiences with our services and are supported to maintain their sexual health and wellbeing, as we recognise that poor sexual health can be serious and costly for the individual, for health and social care services and for society as a whole.

    Southend Sexual and Reproductive Health JSNA

    This survey will take approximately 8 - 10 minutes to complete.

    The questions in this survey are completely anonymous. You will not be identified personally; we will just capture overall responses to understand broadly how people use services.

    Sexual health is a key public health priority for Southend-on-Sea City Council. Our ambition is to ensure that sexual health services support the delivery of Southend 2050 outcomes; ”Southenders remaining well enough to enjoy fulfilling lives”.  

    Southend-on-Sea City Council is consulting with the aim of improving patient experience. As we recognise that poor sexual health can be serious and costly for the individual, for health and social care services and for society as a whole. 

    The sexual health service will continue to provide; information, advice, testing and management of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s), contraception choices, pregnancy testing, and sexual health promotion; including HIV awareness. 

    We want to hear your views, experiences and ideas about how we can shape the sexual health service and support people in maintaining their sexual health and wellbeing. We also want to ensure the services are inclusive, non-discriminatory, more accessible, effective and easy to navigate.
