Your neignbourhood - your plan

Announcement of Chair

Southend-on-Sea City Council is delighted that Shoeburyness has been selected for the Pride in Place Programme. We are equally pleased that David Hadjicostas, a committed local resident and longstanding community volunteer, has agreed to serve as Chair.

We look forward to supporting David, in this voluntary role, as he leads a Board of local residents who will engage closely with the community, local businesses and partner organisations to shape a robust investment plan for Shoeburyness.

The Project

Shoeburyness has been chosen as one of 399 wards to receive up to £20 million over 10 years through the Government’s Pride in Place scheme. This initiative targets areas with the lowest rankings in the English Index of Multiple Deprivation, focusing on improving pay, skills, productivity, and health.

Guiding Principles

  1. Thriving Places

  1. Stronger Communities

  1. Taking Back Control

The Pride in Shoeburyness Neighbourhood Board will lead the development of a 10-year Regeneration Plan, ensuring local priorities shape investment. The plan will be submitted to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).

Government’s Eight Investment Areas

  • Regeneration, high streets & heritage
  • Housing
  • Work, productivity & skills
  • Cohesion
  • Health & wellbeing
  • Transport
  • Safety & security
  • Education & opportunity
