What is the survey about?
Southend-on-Sea City Council SEND service are developing a Preparing for Adulthood SEND strategy for everyone working with children and young people with SEN or disabilities, particularly relevant for those working with children and young people aged 14 and over. It will focus on how professionals across education (including early years, schools, colleges and 16-19 academies), health and social care should support children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) or disabilities to prepare for adult life, and help them go on to achieve the best outcomes in employment, independent living, health and community participation.
The journey from childhood to adulthood is an important time for all children and young people, particularly for those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). It is vital that children receive the right support and guidance at the earliest opportunity to prepare them for becoming an adult, and to help them reach their full potential and lead a fulfilling life. Southend-On-Sea City Council would like to know your experiences and understanding of the transition to adulthood and how you are supported in Southend with local services.
How will the survey be used?
The survey and its findings will be used to help inform the SEND service of the understanding of ‘preparing for adulthood’ and the challenges, children, young people and their families face during the transition period between the ages of 14 to 25.
Who should take part in the Survey?
The survey applies to all children and young people with SEND aged 0 to 25 who receive SEN Support or have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), including their families and carers. However, we would particularly like to hear from Children and Young People between the ages of 14 to 25 with SEND and their parents and careers.
Surveys close at 5pm on 11th April 2025
