The local authority is responsible for reviewing air quality and where there is an exceedance of one of the air pollutants that impact on public health, they are required to declare an air quality management area (AQMA). The local authority declared AQMA no. 1 in November 2016 for exceedances of nitrogen dioxide.
AQMA No.1 (The Bell Junction), covers an area encompassing properties at the junction of Prince Avenue, Rochford Road and Hobleythick Lane, extending eastwards to include the junction of Victoria Avenue and Priory Crescent (‘Cuckoo Corner’). An air quality action plan (AQAP) was then adopted to try to improve air quality in that area. The nitrogen dioxide levels have reduced by 69% but there are still improvements required to bring levels of pollution down in this area.
We are consulting on this refreshed AQAP for AQMA no.1 for which we welcome your views.
The consultation runs until 19th December until 5pm 12th February 2025and is open to all residents and businesses living or trading in the City, and all other interested parties.
