12. Marketplace Gallery - EAST CENTRAL

East Central Area

Marketplace Gallery will transform an underused space in the heart of East Central into a vibrant creative hub where local residents and people experiencing homelessness can come together, learn new skills and build meaningful connections. Located just off Southend High Street, the project responds directly to local demand for more inclusive community spaces and positive activities that bring people together. Through free exhibitions, creative workshops and community events, Marketplace Gallery will provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to explore creativity, share experiences and develop confidence. Activities ranging from printing, painting and 3D design to furniture restoration and sustainable craft making will encourage learning, self-expression and collaboration, while creating positive routines and new opportunities for people experiencing homelessness. More than a gallery, the project will be a welcoming space that reduces social isolation, strengthens community relationships and challenges perceptions of homelessness through shared creative experiences. By celebrating local talent, improving the surrounding environment and creating a visible centre for community activity, Marketplace Gallery will help foster pride, belonging and wellbeing across East Central. With support from Big Sparks, Marketplace Gallery will create lasting social impact, helping people feel more connected, creative and confident while building a stronger, more inclusive neighbourhood for everyone.
