The Big Sparks Fund will provide grants to residents, businesses and community groups who want to make a positive change within their communities.
A total of £40,000 is available in each of the four neighbourhoods across the city, the fund will be designed and delivered by those that live, work and support residents across the city.

Residents, businesses and voluntary sector organisations are invited to submit ideas on how to make their neighbourhood safer, happier or healthier and support the city's vision of ageing, caring and living well. These ideas have will be reviewed by a neighbourhood panel, before going to a 'Big Vote'.
The Big Vote will be held in person at a local venue and the expectation is that those submitting a Project Idea for a vote will be available to answer supporting questions. However, if you are unable to attend this day, information will need to be provided for sharing at the Big Vote. Residents will be able to vote and the projects with the most votes will receive the funding. Projects not successful will be provided feedback.

Funding Guidance
Please read the following carefully before submitting your application:
Schools are not eligible to apply for funding.
Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) can apply if:
The project is a new idea.
The project will benefit or be open to the wider community.
Funding Threshold: Applications exceeding the maximum funding limit will be automatically disqualified. Please check the applicable funding amounts before applying.
Funding Amounts: There are set funding amounts available depending on the type of applicant:
Residents – £1,000
Community Groups, Charities, or Businesses – £5,000 (If you are applying as a business, this must be clearly stated on the application form.)

Review Process and Timeline
This round of funding was open until 31st May 2025
Once submitted, your application will be reviewed by a local panel to see if it is suitable to go through to our public vote.

Event held in the community to share project ideas and for voting to begin.
Projects will be available to view on Your Say Southend website and voting cards and voting boxes will be available at your local library for those who can’t make the Big Vote event in person or submit a vote digitally on Your Say Southend
You can complete any surveys online using mobile devices,from home or by using computers available in our local libraries, the Civic Centre and the South Essex Community Hub.
