Overview

The council is preparing to produce a city-wide strategy for responding to the issue of damp, mould, and condensation. The strategy will outline our ambitions for reducing the prevalence of damp, mould, and condensation throughout the city, in addition to outlining an action plan for the council and its partners. We are seeking to involve residents early on in the process to help guide the writing of the strategy.

Survey Aims

In order to produce a strategy which will help in tackling damp, mould, and condensation throughout the city it is important to understand where the city is currently and what its aims are on this issue. So, through this engagement we are looking to understand:

  • The prevalence of damp and mould in the city
  • Experiences of tenants with damp and mould issues, including the responses to these issues
  • Responses of landlords to damp and mould issues
  • The general level of knowledge of damp and mould, including rights and responsibilities
  • The level and suitability of communication around damp, mould, and condensation

Our Plan

We will be running this survey for 6-weeks before drafting the strategy, feedback received will be considered and used to inform the strategy. Once we have completed the drafting process, we will launch a further consultation to gather views on the draft.

Disclaimer

This engagement exercise will be feeding into and supporting the council’s Damp, Mould, and Condensation strategy only, and is not a means to issue any live complaints you may have with your housing.

If you are experiencing issues of damp, mould or condensation in your home and you are a tenant of Southend City Council, you can report this at healthyhomes@seh.southend.gov.uk . You can also find advice and information on South Essex Homes website Condensation, Damp & Mould | South Essex Homes.

Consultation was open for 6 weeks and closed at 5pm on 23rd February 2024
