Southend-on-Sea City Council introduced a Selective Licensing scheme in December 2021 across eight neighbourhoods in Milton, Kursaal, Victoria and Chalkwell wards. The scheme forms part of the Council's wider housing strategy to help ensure privately rented homes are safe, well-managed and support thriving communities.
What is Selective Licensing?
Selective Licensing requires private landlords within designated areas to obtain a licence for properties they rent out. The scheme aims to tackle issues such as poor housing conditions, anti-social behaviour and crime, helping to improve neighbourhoods for residents and tenants.
The public consultation is now open, and we want to hear your views. Your feedback will help us understand the potential impacts of the proposed scheme and ensure that local perspectives are considered as part of the decision-making process.
Take part in the consultation today and have your say. You can also select ‘Stay Informed’ to receive updates on the consultation, project progress and future engagement opportunities.
Survey is open until 31 December 2026
