Planning for Economic Growth - The Big Debate

Make your views known: We are consulting on a New Local Plan that sets out options and potential sites for how we plan for new jobs, housing, local services, green spaces and supporting infrastructure to meet the needs of the Borough for the next 20 years.

In parallel to the Local Plan consultation we are interested in your views as part of this separate survey on what action the Council should be taking within its Local Plan to protect and enhance the natural environment and to adapt to and mitigate climate change.

Meeting Economic Needs

The Government requires all local planning authorities to provide a long term Local Plan to meet our needs for the future.

The Local Plan must set out a positive strategy in seeking to accommodate around 23,500 new homes and 11,000 new jobs over the next 20 years. In order to facilitate this the Local Plan should seek to protect existing employment land and allocate new land for new offices, industrial uses or other employment activities

The Covid Pandemic has had a significant impact on the global and local economy, including consumer and travel to work patterns. The New Local Plan can play a key role in helping to act as a catalyst to recover from this impact.
