Safeguarding is everyone's business!

The Southend Safeguarding Partnership (SSP) aims to ensure the safety and protection of children and adults with care and support needs in Southend.

It achieves this by working with agencies who provide services to children and adults with care & support needs, to raise awareness about abuse, develop a culture that does not tolerate abuse, and prevent abuse from happening wherever possible. The SSP have three Strategic Leads:

  • Essex Police,

  • Southend City Council and

  • Mid & South Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB).

Where abuse does happen, the SSP and their partner agencies are able to support and safeguard the rights of people who are harmed, stop abuse from continuing, and improve the victim's access to any services they may need, such as advocacy, post-abuse support, or legal services.

How does the SSP work?

The SSP is a standalone entity helping our partners work better together by holding up a mirror on their performance to ensure appropriate safeguarding processes and procedures are in place in Southend.

We facilitate improvement by identifying need and supporting co-production of solutions and help partners understand and see where performance might be challenged or improved.

We deal with prevention to crisis management and everything in between and ensure we listen to our community and support Partners to do the same.
