Speed cushion

Background

The Thorpe area had been chosen for the pilot 20mph speed limit study owing to the street layout, available highway space and 85% speeds (the percentile speed average used to assess vehicle speeds)of the area.

Proposal

As part of the consultation prior to the commencement locations and diagrams of what we are proposing are contained in Thorpe Options for Consultation and views were collected using a survey.

The Consultation

The consultation ran from 5th September to the 21st October 2022 and was open to all residents and businesses living or trading in the Borough.

Survey interaction

The main consultation was delivered through the Southend-on-Sea City Council online consultation portal. A total of 2,500 residents and businesses participated. The responses varied and 440 responded online, 16 hardcopy questionnaires were submitted and 88 letters.

The report with recommendations went to cabinet on 21st December 2022 and was called into Place Scrutiny for 30th January 2023, this process has now been completed.
