The Ageing Well strategy for Southend-on-Sea 2022-2027 is seeking to develop an Age Friendly community in the Borough by working together with people living in Southend on shared priorities so that people of all ages can live their lives to their full potential.

The draft priorities cover the following eight areas:

  • Outdoor spaces and buildings
  • Transport
  • Housing
  • Social participation
  • Respect and social inclusion
  • Civic participation and employment
  • Communication and information
  • Community support and health services

What we have done so far:

Milestone recovery plans were developed with co-produced priorities for action in the Autumn of 2020 for delivery by April 2022. One of the priorities of the Adult Social Care Milestone Recovery Plans 2020 -2022 for Older People was the development and coproduction of a five-year strategy with longer term priorities for action.

Further coproduction to define the priorities with a small group of Southend residents took place over five sessions in Feb and March 2021. We then sought further ideas and held online sessions with groups of residents from South Essex homes housing schemes to try to generate further discussion and promote ideas on Your Say Southend site.
