Project Update

Since the last online survey which closed in August the project team have progressed the preliminary designs for the project in conjunction with our architect and pre-application advice from the Local Planning Authority (LPA).

The team would like to once again offer the local residents to comment on the proposal picking up on the feedback from the last survey.

Survey Feedback

Feedback from the previous consultation indicate that residents would like to see several initiatives incorporated within the design that could improve the area in and around the proposed north site. Please see below for a summary of the survey:

  • 75% Would like the green space area to be more user friendly by adding dog waste bins.
  • 100% of people survey would like to see tree planting to create screening and improve wildlife habitats
  • 100% Would like designs that incorporate renewable elements within them
  • 100% of those surveyed would like designs which lessen the effect on the environment by Harvesting rainwater
  • 50% surveyed would like additional parking within Lundy Close

Preliminary Drawings

The drawings below represent the work of our architect incorporating initial feedback from the planning department.

*Please note: The above image not 100% accurate and has been reproduced only to help residents understand the proposal in the context of Lundy Close.

The proposed block of 12 flats sits within the North site in Lundy Close and has been positioned to minimise the impact upon the existing dwellings, maximise the space available and to reduce the need for a higher structure.

Screening trees have been included to the East and North of the block to improve the outlook and deliver on our commitment to increase tree planting. Low level landscaping is to be incorporated into the front of the block which will look to provide planting in line with Southend Borough Councils Pollinator Strategy.

Renewable technologies will be considered for incorporation within the development, noting that 100% of surveys respondents were supportive of this approach. The use of the following technologies is currently being considered:

  • Ground Source Heat Pumps
  • Air Source Heat Pumps
  • Solar Panels
  • Solar Thermal Panels

Consultation

Before the final design work is completed, we would like to ask residents to take part in a short survey.

The survey will focus on the important points which local residents have highlighted previously and to provide an opportunity for comment with regard to the exterior materials and design of the building.

**Consultation closes at 5pm on 14th January 2022.**

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

    Dear Resident

Following on from my promise to involve residents more in the development taking place in Lundy Close, we are once again asking for your input into the design of the project.

As I hope you already know, we do listen to the feedback you give us. We have considerably reduced the number of homes on the site from the original proposal three years ago. We have taken on board your views on extra tree planting. And we are incorporating more renewable elements within the scheme, including harvesting rainwater.

For the next stage, before our final designs are submitted, we would like to ask for your views on the exterior ‘look’ of the buildings, landscaping and estate improvements, something you have told us is important to you. Please complete the survey and encourage your neighbours within Lundy Close to do so too.

I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that there is an urgent need for new homes in Southend-on-Sea. Aside from the national pressures coming from central Government, we only need to look at the number of families on the council’s housing waiting list who are in desperate need of a secure, safe, family home. Every Southend resident deserves a roof over their head and somewhere they can call home and the extra properties on Lundy Close will go a long way to helping those who are most in need.

Thank you for taking part in this survey and thank you for your continued interest in this project.

    Cllr Ian Gilbert

    Leader of Southend-on-Sea Borough Council.
