Do you have a story or thank you message to share?
Here's a place to share your stories and thank you messages! We’d like to celebrate what has happened in your local community and would love to read your good news stories.
We really encourage you to post a 'thank you' message to anyone who has been kind to you in the last few months.
We do not recommend sharing the address or contact details of yourself or someone else in your story. If you would like to use the real names of people in your story please only do this if you have that person’s permission. It would be great to see photos to celebrate your story but again please make sure you have permission of the people in the photo.
Thank you for sharing your story with the rest of the community. We really love to read these!

The Southend Coronavirus Action Helpline has proved to be a major success, with hundreds of residents helped by the new initiative.
Southend Council launched the dedicated helpline, which has helped vulnerable people since the outbreak of Covid-19, in March.
A host of voluntary and community groups have come together to help residents with shopping, collecting medication, topping up gas and electric and dog walking.
Tim Watts, the Lions Club of Leigh community chairman, is pleased to have played his part in keeping the community going in tough times.
Mr Watts said: “Many of our members are in the higher risk categories themselves, so our frontline team is small - but totally committed.
“So far, we have delivered food parcels, done shopping for individuals, collected prescription medicines and taken people to clinical appointments. We are in action seven days a week.”
Lions Club of Leigh volunteer Sue Gasper has played a key role in helping with shopping and being the main contact to determine clients’ shopping lists.
The Southend Estuary Scout District has also been involved in the process and leader Tim Browne was brought close to tears after volunteering his services.
Mr Browne said: “It was heartwarming how grateful [his client] was. She wouldn’t come outside until I’d left.
“A lady was clearly protecting her father, who I saw through the window, and as I drove away she was still waving and mouthing thank you so much.
“I’d lie if I said I didn’t have a tear in my eye. This work is so essential, life-saving for some.”
Southend Association of Voluntary Services has been guiding and supporting the response since the helpline went live.
Development officer Roger Savage said: “The community response has been heartwarming and I would like to say a massive thank you to all the groups and individuals involved.
“The volunteers should all be extremely proud of what they have achieved so far and how many people they have supported.”

The local mental health and wellbeing charity Trust Links has had to shut the gates of its Growing Together community gardens over the last few weeks of lockdown, but is very much Live on social media and the internet. As the country was going into lockdown at the end of March, the charity launched Trust Links Live, providing a lifeline for many local people. Staff and volunteers from the organisation, which has community gardens in Westcliff, Shoeburyness, Thundersley and Rochford, livestream every day on Trust Links Live on Facebook. You can catch up with the videos by searching Trust Links Live on YouTube too.
As many people are isolated and worried about COVID, Trust Links Live provides wellbeing tips and guidance each morning at 10 am. Talented musicians, artists and photographers share their skills in the 11 am slot, with weekly yoga sessions broadcast on Tuesdays. At 3 pm Trust Links Live goes in the garden with horticultural tips and engagement with nature. The charity had more than 25,000 views of its livestream in the first month.
One of Trust Links's members said "Trust Links Live is a lifeline during this difficult time. I so miss seeing people and coming to the project, so having staff and volunteers on the livestream really helps me to feel connected."

Everyone Health as a 'Good Neighbour' during COVID 19
What we have done to adapt
- With endorsement from the Local Pharmaceutical Committee and SBC, Everyone Health have been the main focal point for co-ordinating the temporary prescription service across Southend. Co-ordination included EH staff, volunteers, pharmacists and GP’s. The majority of the local Everyone Health team were re-deployed to assist SBC by collecting and delivering prescriptions for the Southend CoronaVirus Action line. Our team have delivered over 500 prescriptions covering 4 localities, with the support of additional re-deployed SBC staff.

- The Health Trainer service and Adult weight Management classes/one to ones have continued as normal only difference being that they are now virtual. This has included Live video calls, phone calls and prerecorded classes. We run weekly Coffee and Catch sessions that are Live on Facebook to encourage everyone to connect by sharing their concerns and sharing solutions over a virtual cuppa.
- Referrals for both Health Trainers and the Adult Weight Management programme are still being taken.
Recognition and Appreciation
- Local Pharmacist have acknowledged our efforts and thanked us for assisting in delivering prescriptions they normally would have had to deliver. Due to the influx in prescription requests they were inundated with prescscription requests. Another local Pharmacist called EH Southend Service Manger to express his gratitude at how helpful and professional staff were when collecting prescriptions. This is what the Pharmacy manager had to say to Everyone Healths service manager:
"I just wanted to tell you how much we appreciate your help. At the moment our delivery slots are full, so its difficult to fullfil all of our prescription deliveries. We are so grateful for the support. Your team has been a pleasure to work with. Keep up the good work."

Good Neighbours VE Day Celebrations!
by Alison23, almost 6 years ago
A Good Neighbour recently held a VE Day street party celebration in their close, socially distant of course!
It was lovely to see the decorations and to hear about neighbours socialising, playing games, sharing food and generally being Good neighbours during this challenging period.
Thank you to all the Good Neighbours who are supporting each other and making such a difference!

The Good Neighbour Cat!
by Rachel72, almost 6 years agoWe set up a Good Neighbour scheme in my road and a Whats App group. We soon discovered that all of us had a cat that kept appearing in all of our houses, he had actually made himself comfortable on my bed! The cat was owned by a Neighbour and she was very apologetic however we soon came up with an idea of the cat delivering essential goods to each of us, especially when we were in lock down. The cat could deliver a toilet roll if we attached a small trailer (of course we wouldn't!) ...or a gin and... Continue reading

I have lived in my road for 10 years and have met my neighbours now that I wouldn't have previously spoken to, we are now making sure one of our more vulnerable neighbours is ok that we all check in with him everyday, he is lovely and very grateful and relieved to not be so isolated without any family.

Being a Neighbourly Lot!
by Jo25, almost 6 years agoI always knew our road was friendly but during the last 8 weeks have really come to appreciate just how friendly and supportive we all are. My friend over the road started up a Good Neighbours group by posting a note through people's doors asking them if they wanted to start a whats app group so we could all help each other out where needed during the pandemic. We now have a very lively, fun group that looks out for each other on a regular basis. So far we've had some fun too..... putting up the bunting together, having a... Continue reading

So far we've had some fun too..... putting up the bunting together, having a socially distanced VE party, supporting each other raise money for worthwhile causes, buying those 'in demand items' from the supermarket to share that have been hard to source (mainly loo roll and flour!) and now we seem to have regular Friday drinks outside!
I really feel like the group and community spirit is here to stay.
