Do you have a story or thank you message to share?

Here's a place to share your stories and thank you messages! We’d like to celebrate what has happened in your local community and would love to read your good news stories.

We really encourage you to post a 'thank you' message to anyone who has been kind to you in the last few months.

We do not recommend sharing the address or contact details of yourself or someone else in your story. If you would like to use the real names of people in your story please only do this if you have that person’s permission. It would be great to see photos to celebrate your story but again please make sure you have permission of the people in the photo.

Thank you for sharing your story with the rest of the community. We really love to read these!

    Fantastic community response to Covid-19

by Roger Savage, almost 4 years ago

Dedicated volunteers have helped almost 700 vulnerable people throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

The Southend Coronavirus Action Helpline has proved to be a major success, with hundreds of residents helped by the new initiative.

Southend Council launched the dedicated helpline, which has helped vulnerable people since the outbreak of Covid-19, in March.

A host of voluntary and community groups have come together to help residents with shopping, collecting medication, topping up gas and electric and dog walking.

Tim Watts, the Lions Club of Leigh community chairman, is pleased to have played his part in keeping the community going in tough times.

by mattk, almost 4 years ago

The local mental health and wellbeing charity Trust Links has had to shut the gates of its Growing Together community gardens over the last few weeks of lockdown, but is very much Live on social media and the internet. As the country was going into lockdown at the end of March, the charity launched Trust Links Live, providing a lifeline for many local people. Staff and volunteers from the organisation, which has community gardens in Westcliff, Shoeburyness, Thundersley and Rochford, livestream every day on Trust Links Live on Facebook. You can catch up with the videos by searching Trust Links... Continue reading

Everyone Health as a 'Good Neighbour' during COVID 19

    • With endorsement from the Local Pharmaceutical Committee and SBC, Everyone Health have been the main focal point for co-ordinating the temporary prescription service across Southend. Co-ordination included EH staff, volunteers, pharmacists and GP’s. The majority of the local Everyone Health team were re-deployed to assist SBC by collecting and delivering prescriptions for the Southend CoronaVirus Action line. Our team have delivered over 500 prescriptions covering 4 localities, with the support of additional re-deployed SBC staff.

    Good Neighbours VE Day Celebrations!

by Alison23, almost 4 years ago

A Good Neighbour recently held a VE Day street party celebration in their close, socially distant of course!

It was lovely to see the decorations and to hear about neighbours socialising, playing games, sharing food and generally being Good neighbours during this challenging period.

Thank you to all the Good Neighbours who are supporting each other and making such a difference!

    The Good Neighbour Cat!

by Rachel72, almost 4 years ago

We set up a Good Neighbour scheme in my road and a Whats App group. We soon discovered that all of us had a cat that kept appearing in all of our houses, he had actually made himself comfortable on my bed! The cat was owned by a Neighbour and she was very apologetic however we soon came up with an idea of the cat delivering essential goods to each of us, especially when we were in lock down. The cat could deliver a toilet roll if we attached a small trailer (of course we wouldn't!) ...or a gin and... Continue reading

    Being a Neighbourly Lot!

by Jo25, almost 4 years ago

I always knew our road was friendly but during the last 8 weeks have really come to appreciate just how friendly and supportive we all are. My friend over the road started up a Good Neighbours group by posting a note through people's doors asking them if they wanted to start a whats app group so we could all help each other out where needed during the pandemic. We now have a very lively, fun group that looks out for each other on a regular basis. So far we've had some fun too..... putting up the bunting together, having a... Continue reading
