What is the Tackling Poverty Strategy?

Southend on Sea City Council is developing a Tackling Poverty Strategy and Action Plan by 2023 with the aim of supporting people born into poverty, and those who fall into poverty, to be able to move out of poverty.

We would like to hear from you!

Poverty is everyone’s concern. It’s more than just not having any money. Poverty can come in many forms. Southend-on-Sea City Council needs your help to understand how poverty influences:

  • Real life, both now and in the future.
  • Relationships, including family, friends and partners.
  • Your life choices, aspirations, and the opportunities available to you.
  • your health and general wellbeing.

Sharing your experiences will make a difference by informing new and future strategies from the council. It’s time for real change. So get involved and make sure your voice is heard to help end poverty in Southend-on-Sea.

The 5 priority themes for this strategy are:

  • Food Insecurity
  • Fuel Insecurity
  • Financial Inclusion
  • Housing Insecurity
  • Jobs & Skills

With the view to highlight digital inclusion and health inequality in all of the above themes.

The strategy and action plan will be co-produced with people with lived experience of poverty, community groups, local charities and businesses.

If you have any questions, need any assistance taking part or would like to receive an alternative version of the content e.g. an easy read version, paper, version or to feedback another way please email: boglarkanemeth@southend.gov.uk
